A former senior officer of the Central Intelligence Agency, Mark S. Sparkman serves as the President of Veretus. As a 30-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Clandestine Service, Mr. Sparkman spent his career developing unique insights into some of the most politically and culturally complex countries and regions in the world. He served the CIA in roles throughout the globe, twice as Chief of Station, three times as Deputy Chief of Station and as Chief of Operations for East Asia.
Mr. Sparkman’s experience stretches across numerous tours in Africa, Western Europe, and Australia in addition to shorter stints in the Arabian Gulf. He was a member of the CIA’s Senior Intelligence Service, and was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal and Intelligence Medal of Merit. He is also the survivor of an al-Qaeda-led bomb attack.
Following retirement from the CIA, Mr. Sparkman was a Senior International Affairs Analyst with the RAND Corporation. He later helped manage investigations for a foreign-based firm. Prior to joining Veretus, he spearheaded a joint venture between a British strategic communications firm and a U.S. company representing the defense industry.
Mr. Sparkman leads many of Veretus’ international investigations and strategic intelligence projects, relying on a rich array of former U.S. government officials, foreign area and language experts, and corporate contacts.
Mr. Sparkman holds a B.A. and M.A. from Auburn University.
